The end is near!!!!! Flat season Anyway

It’s been a quiet month …. Horses beginning to need a break… only had 3 runners in the Month, Our Grass team has now finished and our sole representative on the all-weather is ready…

Both Somethingboutmary and Henry Bee are heading down to Abbey Stud just outside Newmarket in Hoo… This stunning setting will give both horses a well-deserved break. Henry has been there before on his pre training program, Mick who looks after the horses has great knowledge having worked for Bill O’Gorman and Gerard Butler. They have big plans for the stud and have started to buy some really nice mares… including our mare Scillion who is in foal to Equiiano, due in Feb…

Somethingboutmary did not run well in her last race and a break looked long overdue for her… a chance to re-charge the batteries and grow… She is rated 70 on the AWT , Henry Bee has not been out since injuring himself at Thirsk after winning 2 on the bounce…. Looks to be growing pains and the fact that he has been in training over a year… we all need a break. Mick has a plan for him and will get Bee back buzzing ready for next season…

Bunce ran twice in October… Finishing 4th at Southwell a great effort to say that the surface may not have suited, then he went on to finish 7th at Catterick. We have a few ideas why we have not seen him get his head in front, he will get the winter off and will come back soon very well handicapped of 70 with plenty of room for improvement.

Siberian Belle has been taken out of training and will go to a new home very soon… a sweet filly with talent.. sadly we never saw her full potential. She won for is in August at Yarmouth… so the decision was made to take her out of training and start a fresh with a new yearling…

Woolfell Sovereign is back in work and will soon be back in action on the all-weather… rated 87 he won’t be running for small prizes.. we still have a long term plan but will see how the 1st two races go, aiming at a race at southwell in December… he looks well and fired up. Let’s hope he can add to our impressive year by sticking his head in front….

we have added a 2yr old filly called Throwing Roses to our team for next year… Previous in training with Ollie Pears we have taken her on with aim of loosing her maiden tag next year… Still not decided on where she will be trained, she is currently in a field just outside Huby, eating Dr Grass and gowing…. She will be £500 all in for the year for 5% share staring in jan…. She will offer a bit of fun and hopfully reward owners with a win and a few good days out

This year has been our best to date and we still have 2 months of the all-weather to add to it…. Happy owners , Horse in form and a few nice bets landed. WRS will build on this and get bigger and better in 2013… The addition of some new horses including a possible star…. Watch this space

In other news …… 2 out of 3 horses have been bought for our American dream package… the Bang in form Marford Missile and Marchwood…. Both tick all the boxes and expect to see their noes crossing the wire in pole position…. One more horse to buy. Nothing was bought at Newmarkets HITS.. but we still have time and I have a list of horse I need to start ringing the trainers about… They will ship 1st week in Dec and be running very soon after.

WRS had its day out at Pontefract on Monday 22nd October.. Massive turn out in our box… Thank you to all who attended … everyone had a great day, drinks bets and horses… including a few guests… Kevin Ryan called in for a beer and as did WRS favourite Freddie Tylicki who took time out to sign a few winning pics of him on Henry Bee for the owners… Sadly the weather was not brillient but i cant arrange everything

Our Calendar of events for 2013 is taking shape… looks like it will be Doncaster on Lincoln day…. WRS will have a box for the owners… a great start to hopefully a great season ahead

Wildcard racing August 2012

August has been a very good month….  An exciting entry in the Ayr Bronze cup and 2 winners……

 Henry Bee

Had the whole month off to get over his back strain… he is now well in to preparations for the Ayr Racing festival…. All being well he will run in the bronze cup, he will go straight to Ayr on 22nd of September. To say we have happy owners is an understatement…. Hopefully ground and pace in the race will be in his favour and he runs a big one

 Siberian Belle

She finally became belle of the ball… winning an apprentice race in the capable hands of Laura Barry….. Laura who used to look after Belle was so pleased even though Belle made it as hard as possible for her. It’s been a long time coming but Belle Pulled out just enough without really trying to win…. We have entered everywhere since but races are hard to get in to at her level but reports are very good and we expect her to come on for the run and reward her owner’s patience… Nice comment on Attheraces as she passed the line another winner in the wildcard racing Colours….. nice to be noticed

 Somethingboutmary

Just 1 start and 1 win in August… All the way to Lingfield, put in to the stalls buy Gary witheford, led all way …. Job done. Julie Burke rode her at Lingfield and gave her a great ride, Turning for home the pack look to be closing but a quick slap turned on the burners and off she went to win a shade cosy….. From the reports at home she is working very well, just putting all the pieces of the puzzle together for the finished article

 Bunce

New addition this month to wildcard racing….. A bargain at just £6k he is in training with David O ‘Mera….. After a 10 week layoff he has ran twice in 3 days finishing 5th on both occasions. David id very happy with him and now knows what he has to work with…. It won’t be long till he adds to wildcard racings impressive strike rate for 2012…..

 Woolfall sovereign

Back in work now after having part of his hoof removed….. Can’t wait to get him back

 In other news

Wildcard racing attended the malton open day…  a great success with plenty of info handed out and new owners brought in…..i love attending days like that showing people what we have to offer… A friendly service, a great strike rate, top trainers and great horses….. it’s been an amazing year to date and I am looking forward to the last few months…..

Siberian belle is my horse to watch….. Going very much in the right direction….

Kevin Ryan Stable Visit

A nice sunny Morning at the top of Sutton Bank….. does it get any better?????? Yes it does….. when your there to watch your filly canter past in full flight.

Somethingboutmary looked every inch the racehorse in the hands of Amy Ryan…. Working very well she impressed all who attended. A final prep ready for her race on Monday at Lingfield. Kevin was very pleased with her…. Amy also had plenty to say out her fav horse in the yard.

A big turnout of 14 owners came to see what there hard earned cash pays for and none went away disappointed…. Our stunning chestnut daughter of Sleeping Indian posed for cameras and accepted pats of all connected..

After work it was off to the Hambleton inn for Bacon Butties and coffee….. A chance for all owners to have a catch up and talk about horses…. A top morning enjoyed by all

Wildcard Racing July 12

It’s been a great month for Wildcard Racing…… Our shining light is Henry Bee, finally getting the idea of where the line is and completing a double within 2 weeks,

Henry Bee

We went to Beverley to try a new trip with Henry, he had been running well and consistent but never getting his head in front, we decided a stiff 5 may just be the answer, A late change of Jockey meaning Freddie Tylicki would ride, his first ever for WRS…. Henry jumped from the stalls the disadvantage of the bad draw never looked to be an issue… The smart horse being the one to beat, henry travelled well and entering the last 2f looked to be ready to pick of the leader, he did this with ease inside the final furlong and it was celebration time…… All the fun he had given us he had sealed the deal with a win

This is what it means to people http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSoEXF2PVIQ&feature=plcp

Not long till we had another entry… this time a class 4 event at Haydock… in good form we hoped for a good run….. and what a run he gave us. Badly outpaced 1st 4f his new pilot pulled him wide and within  a  matter of strides had put the race to bed, Henry had won a shade cosy in the end so the 6lb rise from the handicapped seems fair….. 7 places, 2 wins for 12 runs is a top effort….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX24DlRUjQ0&feature=plcp

He had an entry at Newmarket in the class 2 sprint but the weights went against us so decided not to run….. he will now go to Thirsk or Newmarket this Saturday

Siberian Belle

A much better run from Belle at Yarmouth a few weeks back showed that she was starting to get the idea of the racing game… Travelled well just a lack of pace near the finish, But everyone seemed pleased with her run…. Undecided if she wants further or 7F….. we went to Ayr over a mile. Again she travelled well and looked like she was going to make all, entering the final 2 we thought we had found the key but as before she just did not pick up… Headgear will be the key and she won’t be far away next time!!!!!

Somethingboutmary

She finally passed the stalls test….. it took 2 weeks longer than we thought due to her being ‘ a stubborn cow’ one of the hardest that Gary has dealt with..All sorted now and with a very nice rating of 65 Kevin will get her tuned up and racing asap.

Woolfall Sovereign

Still on the side-lines due to a foot injury but fully expected to be back in August

Bunce

Our New addition Bunce will join David O’Mera… Rated a very well handicapped 74, there is plenty to like about him, with just 25% left it shows what other owners think about him and were keen to snap shares up…… A winner at 83 there is plenty of scope to improve

WRS June 2012

June gave WRS our biggest victory to date….. and put us on the global map. All thanks to Deerslayer and Amy Weaver..

Deerslayer – He finally did the business for wrs stateside, Rudy had found him the perfect race, a massive $33,000 pot…. race time in UK was 1220 am, I managed to stay up and cheer him home. Hitting the front 2f out he showed all his ability to hold off the late challenge. Deerslayer was claimed after the race for $20,000 and the plan was complete… Thanks to all involved.

Henry Bee- He continues to be a consistent performer but still that elusive win escapes him… We went to Redcar as fav in a poor maiden, this being his downfall as he was out on his own a long time and started to wander, getting caught close home. A few days ago we headed north to Musselburgh and bumped into a nice filly of Mark Johnston…. Was one of henrys best performances to date going down by a half a length….

Woolfall Sovereign – We have not had the ground to run him on in June, he was set to run at Thirsk until bad weather halted that

Siberian Belle – She has come down with an infection after being bitten, so has been in and out of action… won’t be long till we see her again on track.

Somethingboutmary -  Races for novices are not easy to find, we found a perfect one at Newcastle, just 4 runners. Hot fav to beat, Mary prepped and ready to roll….. but our little diva of a filly decided that the stalls were not for her and refused to go in…. looking at the race we missed a golden opportunity. So she has been sent to Gary witherford http://www.garywitheford.co.uk/ to pass a stalls test and make sure this does not happen again. Gary has worked with the best so she is in good hands

Wildcard Racing May 12…..

Its been a busy a busy month for WRS…. plenty of running and a mixed bag of results. Racing is there to test us but we continue to battle on…. we have the horses just need the luck.

SIBERIAN BELLE, made her seasonal debut at Beverly on 7th May. She had not been seen since running at Leicester last October. She has grown a lot over the winter but the penny just don’t look liked it has dropped…. we went to Beverley with an aim to see how much she has come on… sadly she was back to her own tricks, jumping and running sideways. She is a filly with bags of talent but we are struggling to find the key to unlock her. She has been working in headgear so just maybe its the answer, the horse she worked well against on the musley bank gallops has come out and won….. it may just be her time

WOOLFALL SOVERIGN

Wooly is a frustrating animal at present, working well at home but not producing the goods on track… Despite our thoughts on him being a soft ground horse his latest run and our first wrs horse at ascot proved otherwise…. Ian Mongan said he was never travelling and the ground just did not suit… we will try again, this tie on good ground…. Wooly or Nu Nu as he is known in the yard is so well handicapped rated of 76 at present, has won of 83 so we are sticking with him and he will reward our faith

HENRY BEE

Henry has put in 2 very different efforts in May, both ends of the spectrum. His best effort came at Thirsk going very close just bumping in to a good one on the day. He was slow away but picked up well to lead inside final furlong before getting headed. form of his last races has been very good so we headed to Ripon on Tuesday with very high hopes….. sadly Henry Bee had a different idea. Falling out of stalls, going right, then left and by half way was well back… Shane let him coast home. straight off to the vets to be checked over as the performance was so bad…. Nothing seems to be wrong with him so I can’t explain what the issue was…. its Redcar Monday for him now

SOMETHINGBOUTMARY

After winning on debut SBM had not been out but we felt it was right to give her a chance in the listed race at York over 5F, a hot race with a short price fav, but she had clocked a very fast time at southwell despite running green, so we were there to take our chance. What we did learn from the race is that she still has a lot to learn. She broke poor and at that level you don’t get chance to get back in to it….. we may try 6f next if the race comes up but she is a filly with a nice future…. I never sold her as a superstar but we do think we have a nice one that will win races….

DEERSLAYER

our American wing of wildcard racing is starting to really get going now.. Deerslayer had run at Belmont over 6f and failed to get home finishing 5th and leading just about all way till 1 out…. we were fully expecting a fast 5f race and land a nice prize, instead we entered him over 7f…. knowing the horse and his speed I did not think that 7 would suit and he would blow up and trail in last… shows what I know. Deerslayer as always led and kept finding more and more…. entering the final 200 yards wrs was looking at a $40,000 payday. The line was just 1 yard to far and he was done by a nose on the line….. has to be the best race he has run stateside to date, making me look stupid telling everyone not to back him….. we have found another race on 9th June and confidence is high….

OTHER NEWS

Our broodmare Scillion is in foal to equiano and we will be expecting her to give birth to a colt in early Feb…. She is very well will get some pics of her on my next visit…..

GOLF EVENT

As some of you will know I am involved with racing welfare and help out when I can…. This year was Barneys challenge…. so I decided to arrange a golf event, 64 players headed to Malton and Norton golf club to take park including Richard Fahey, Dave Allan, Lee Topliss, Kevin Darley ,George Duffield and Martin Lane….

A great day had by all with Martin Lanes Newmarket team winning followed by Team Richard Fahey and in 3rd another team from the fahey Yard. I Have raised just a touch under £3000 for Racing Welfare so a massive thank you to all that played

I expect to have an event next year but bigger and more stars from the racing world in attendance

so we had into June with runners ready to go, hoping for a bit of luck….. Woolfall may run sat, henry bee Monday at Redcar and Deerslayer 9th June at Belmont…..

Somethingboutmary – winner winer!!!

An afternoon trip to Southwell, maybe not the most glamorous but we were heading there to see our 2yr old filly Somethingboutmary make her debut. Word from the yard was she would run well but expected to be green, She had not been the quickest from the stalls at home but we were there to take our chance…… Amy Ryan booked to ride, no one knows her better so we were all happy.

She looked a million dollers in parade ring, taking it all in her stride, she has always been a very chilled out filly and it showed…. every now and aging a little dance on her toes but nothing to worry about.

Chatting to Amy in parade ring she discussed the plan depending how SBM jumped…. Amy would make the desciion on how she was traveling , will full trust is miss ryan we wished her well and just asked her to bring her back safely. As in the parade ring SBM was still as chilled out as ever, thoughts wonder to will she ever light up….. we would know in the next 5 mins. We were a bit worried by the bill turner horse Hillbilly boy, Bill was very confident about his charge

No issues going in to the stalls as others around jumped and kicked… The gates flew open and as at home she did not break well…..Amy never pushed and kicked like most Jockeys but just gave her a few strides to get ballenced….. after 2F SBM was getting a face full of kick back and did not look happy, in your head you are deciding what to say to the owners and trying to justify your perchase….. then Amy pulled her wide…..

SBM looked to be picking up well, she was running green you cant agrue that , head was all over but she was starting to fly. Excitment in the WRS camp started to build, amy gave he few slaps of her whip, SBM dispite being  green responded… picking them off 1 by 1. Hitting the front ears still pricked Amy just pushed her home to win a bit cosy….. SBM is WRS 1st 2yr old winner

to watch race http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtILvOfGp6k

You can discribe the feeling of a winner when its your horses and more so when you have seen them grow up…..

As we headed off the the winners enclosure my phone was going crazy in my pocket, calls tweets, text….. they can wait i have 2 special girls to congratulate….. Amy brought her in to the winners inc with a massive smile on her face, she has worked this filly every day and it showed. A quick de brief and a big pat for SBM, Next its interview time followed by the presentation……

In the winners bar you have time to reflect on the run and watch replay…. dispite the greenness her tallent shon through and speaking to Kevin we think there is a lot more to come…..

SBM is now entered at Newcastle on Tuesday

I would like to thank @MartWes for taking some pictures for me used in this blog…. i owe you a beer!!!!

Kevin Ryan stable Visit

Nice early start on Saturday to get to the top of Sutton Bank to se Kevin Ryan, with a small team of owners we met in the damp car park but excitement was high as this was 1st time many would meet their new horse ‘somethingboutmary’. Kevin was out with a lot so i took my team to meet her, She is a stunning daughter of Sleeping Indian out of LochLeven (full sister to the speedster SuperSleuth). SBM is a very placid filly , strong build with a great temprerment, But Kevin was keen to point out that she had a diva side to her…… something that Kevin really likes in his filly’s

So it was into the car and upto the gallops, SBM was in the caperble hands of Amy Ryan, Amy rides her everyday so know one in the yard knows hers better….. She worked at full speed, flying down the gallops , she moved very well never fully coming of the gallop. She was upsides a 3yr old who was all out to stay in contact with her…… Kevin has been very pleased with her work, she is due to do a peice of work next week as Kevin says she is ready….. a nice early type. Muisic to the owners ears…..

We syatyed to watch the rest of the horses fly pass including the yard superstar…..

After work we caught up with Amy to ask her opinion on SBM, you could just tell from her expression she was a big favourite of hers….. She has come on leaps and bounds everyday, It was good to here that amy makes sure she rides her everyday…. She backed up Kevins words that she is a diva, but once on the gallops she is a flying machine.

Would expect her to be out in May, aiming at a 5F sprint, worth watching out for, or even better having a share in….. get in touch
