A week in Wildcard Racing

A week that started at Redcar on April fools day, that ended in the sunshine at Aintree on Grand National day. That is the week that Wildcard Racing enjoyed in the first week in April.

Throwing Roses was our first runner this week in a 5 furlong Handicap at Redcar. This was her 1st run for the team and a real finding out mission. The ground was tacky and after showing early speed, she faded to the tail. The horse will be better suited by a longer trip, and racing on better ground, and the hope that after blowing away the cob webs she will improve.004Here she is above enjoying the parade at Redcar, and the picture below shows the owners at Redcar enjoying the Wildcard experience with connections.006After enjoying the Bank holiday fun at Redcar, it was time for our next runner to run in Aqueduct in America as Julius Geezer was bidding for further success for the American dream partnership. The race was a 30 thousand dollar claimer and the Geezer went off in the states at 10-1 on there tote. The horse was quick out the gates and got a good position just in behind the pace setter, before taking up the running coming out the back straight, down the stretch they came and the Geezer fought off all comers to win in gutsy fashion recording win number 7 for the season for WRS. IMG-20130407-WA008Julius Geezer has now amassed more prize money in America than he did in this country throughout his racing career in Britain. This goes to show what an incredible achievement the American adventure has been for Wildcard Racing, and the whole team and the owners involved can be very proud of this horses efforts. The Geezer will continue racing in the states with much bigger prizes now his objective.IMG-20130407-WA001The last part of a big week was the small matter of the unbeaten Dakar Run racing in the grade 2 Aintree Bumper. For Wildcard to be represented on Grand National day was huge for everyone. The horse has been a dream to be involved with and went to Aintree with all the hopes and dreams of everyone connected.IMG-20130407-WA003The horse was partnered by Brian Hughes and went to post an 11-1 chance. The horse was very relaxed yesterday and went to post with confidence behind him.

The tapes went up and the race was off, settled towards the rear the horse travelled really well, following the favorite Tistory for most of the contest. Turning for home the horse began to come off the bridle but was still in close contention as the race heated up at the business end. Unfortunately for all his followers he was just unable to quicken up with the leaders but stayed on strongly to finish a gallant 5th beaten around 13 lengths.

The racing post analysis yesterday was held up; headway 3f out; ridden 2f out; kept on final furlong, nearest finish.

The paper stated Dakar Run came into this unbeaten and travelled strongly in midfield until asked to quicken off the final bend. He made some ground but his effort soon petered out.

The team was delighted, and the dream of having a runner at such a prestigious meeting was achieved. Dakar Run is a pleasure and having only raced 3 times, huge improvement can be expected as this 4 year old moves forward in his career.IMG-20130406-00245A special week in the Wildcard Racing adventure, and with future success on the horizon as the flat turf season really kicks into gear, a perfect time for people who want to live the dream to get involved.logo

Dakar Run – Wetherby 2nd Feb

A few months ago i took a gamble on an un-raced 4yr old, Beautifully bred, but expensive to Wildcard racing…. All the signs were he was a nice horse, Ex luca Cumani he was too big to have ever of run….. but something made me decide to buy him. I had my share of stick from people on Twitter about him but i dont need to respond… just let the horse do the talking, i would like to think people trust my judgement…..

Saturday Dakar run was finally ready to make his debut, ground issues and being balloted out had prevented him winning sooner… we faced a Pipe Hotpot a £160,000 purchase and 8/13 fav… the link to the two horses was our Jockey Brain Hughes…. This is the first time Brian has ridden for Wildcard but he could not speak highly enough of Dakar…

Pictures courtusy of richardfahey.com

Brians plan was keep out of the bad ground turn for home in the pack and see what he would do in the straight..

Pictures courtusy of richardfahey.com

Turning for home he was still sat in the pack, poised… waiting…. 3 out and only 3 horses left… the noise started to build…. Dakar Run 1st time out we hit unknown territory…. Brian asked him the question, a quick slap down the neck to tell him to go win it….and it was all over .. in the words of the commentator The favourite cannot live with the pace of dakar run….. Team wildcard had another on the board…

Pictures courtusy of richardfahey.com

Brian had a big smile on his face as he came in to the winner enclosure… jumping off he said he was a special horse, his head down he just wanted to run, to gallop… he could not stick his neck out far enough ….pictures and champagne followed with a few guests for the day ….. and a chance to watch the race again…

My phone has not stopped ringing about him yet…. i think we have found a nice one… like i said earlier I let the horses do the talking

Pictures courtusy of richardfahey.com

where we go now is the question… loads of options open to us…. nice problem to have…

This beautiful filly is from the first crop of yearlings in 2012 for sire CAPTAIN GERRARD, a dual group winning sprinter who won or was placed in 9 out of his 10 starts as a juvenile. A winner of six races and more than £145,000 prize money he is by OASIS DREAM, a sire of 25 Group winners. The dam Fontanally Springs was a winner at 2 and 3 and placed 9 times. Likely to be a sharp type on breeding she is currently being broken in and ridden away by Dave and his team. She is likely to make her racecourse debut in two year old maidens from April 2013.

—————————————————————————————————————

One in a Row – 5yr old

Trainer – Alistair Whillans

10% – £1600 then £225 a month

5% -   £800 then £115 a month

Wildcard racings first step in to Jump racing… and what a horse to start with…..One in a Row was purchased at the recent DBS sales after showing promise in a Tipperary bumper where he finished third behind the Willie Mullins trained Pique Sous. He was formerly trained in Ireland by Joseph Hanlon and also has pointing experience. He made his debut for Alistair in a bumper at Perth shortly after being purchased and showed up well for a long way. He is bred to want a trip over hurdles and eventually fences. He has schooled very well and will start off in novice hurdles at the end of October with Carlisle a likely starting point. A horse we are hoping will give his owners some real fun along the way and well up to winning a race this NH season

—————————————————————————————————————–

Dakar Run 3yr old unraced by Arc winning Dalakhani

Trainer – Richard Fahey

10% – £3000 then £225 a month

5% -   £1500 then £115 a month

This stunning son of Arc winning Dalakhani is the real deal.  At over 16 hands he is a strong imposing type that is bred to need a trip. He is a great mover with a long stride. We have so many options with him and would like to think that he will be a real Saturday horse. We are looking at some nice handicaps. Closely related to Zee Zee top and Izzy top his breeding suggests he is a proper horse. He will be trained by Richard Fahey who has trained one in the family before.

——————————————————————————————————————

Aqlaam colt Yearling – Un-named

Trainer – Kevin Ryan

10% – £1500 then £225 a month

5% -   £750 then £115 a month

This colt comes to Wildcard racing with a great page out of Mrs Gray – a winner at 2 and placed 3 times. She has bred 14 foals (9 winners), including Moonstone Magic winner of the Dubai Duty Free Fred Darling S Gr3.  This colt has the potential to be just as good. A great walker and strong looking, he will fit in very well at Kevin Ryan’s yard. He is a great purchase bought at Doncaster sales in a very strong market in 2012.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Garzoni – 3yr old Filly

Trainer – Kevin Ryan

10% – £800 then £225 a month

5% -   £400 then £115 a month

Garzoni was purchased out of Sir Mark Prescott’s yard at the horses in training sales at Newmarket. She is a filly officially rated 60 who is going to improve with another winter under her belt allowing her to strengthen up. She is still very weak and will prosper away from the hustle and bustle of Newmarket when regularly turned out. She is very well bred and was previously owned by Cheverly Park Stud. Her best run was her most recent effort at Brighton over 1m 2f. By Medicean she is a very sweet filly who has an excellent temperament and is well up to winning handicaps in 2013. Given her pedigree she also has a future as a broodmare and this is something we will look closely at after she is successful on the track.

——————————————————————————————————————

Tantamount – 3yr old Gelding

Trainer – Alistair Whillans

10% – £1100 then £225 a month

5% -   £550 then £115 a month

Purchased from Roger Charlton this ex Juddmonte horse has the potential to be anything. With a rating of 62 he is well handicapped. His breeding suggests he will get a trip and we may look at taking him over a hurdle. He is related to upgrade winner of over £250k over the jumps. The right race plan could see him become a very nice horse. He is with the right trainer to give him every chance.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Henry Bee – 3yr old Gelding

Trainer – Richard Fahey

10% – £800 then £225 a month

5% -   £400 then £115 a month

Henry Bee was the model of consistency in 2012 running in 13 races. Henry was only out of the frame on 4 occasions, he won twice including an impressive performance in a class 4 handicap at Haydock. Now rated 77 we have still not seen his full potential; a winter off and a good rest will see him back and ready to role as a 4yr old in 2013… the main plan will be Ayr festival in September.

——————————————————————————————————————

Bunce – 4yr old Gelding

Trainer – David O’Meara

10% – £600 then £225 a month

5% -   £300 then £115 a month

Bought in August he has been running well for WRS without getting his head in front and is now rated 70. His handicap mark suggests he is ready to fire; David has found the key to him and expects him to be in winner’s enclosure very soon. Bunce (once with Richard Hannon) is closely related to Parliament Square of A P O’Brien’s. He is a horse that will get you to the races and will take his turn rewarding his owners with a win.

—————————————————————————————————————–

Throwing Roses 2yr old Filly

Trainer – TBA

5% -      £500 all in for 10 month

2.5% –   £300 all in for 10 month

A great introduction into ownership… a small one off cost will get you to the races without busting the budget. Throwing Roses or Zookie as she is known did very well early part of 2012 but lost her way a bit. Her breeding suggests she will be a better 3yr old as her mum improved from 3 onwards. She is having the winter off and shares will be available from January onwards ready for some fun in 2013 with her. She will mature and grow over the winter, and will offer her owners some great days out racing for less than the cost of a gym membership

—————————————————————————————————————–

Woolfall Sovereign – 6yr old Gelding

Trainer – George Margarson

10% – £ £225 a month lease only

5% -    £115 a month lease only

A great all-weather winter horse, rated 87 on the all-weather Woolfall will come in to his own this time of the year, Based with George Margarson in Newmarket we have a nice plan for woolly. He has had the summer off and always goes well fresh .If you’re looking for an all-weather horse he is your boy, strong and consistent. Off his mark he gets into some very valuable races, and with him being a lease only horse there is no up-front cost

——————————————————————————————————————

Somethingboutmary – 2yr old Filly

Trainer – Kevin Ryan

10% – £1600 then £225 a month

5% -   £800 then £115 a month

This stunning daughter of Sleeping Indian won twice for WRS this year. She is out of Loch Leven and is closely related to the speedy filly Super Sleuth. Somethingboutmary is rated 70 and with 2 wins under her belt she already has great potential to be a broodmare. She was a winner on her debut in April and again mid-season at Lingfield. She will come on over the winter and become a very nice 3yr old.

The end is near!!!!! Flat season Anyway

It’s been a quiet month …. Horses beginning to need a break… only had 3 runners in the Month, Our Grass team has now finished and our sole representative on the all-weather is ready…

Both Somethingboutmary and Henry Bee are heading down to Abbey Stud just outside Newmarket in Hoo… This stunning setting will give both horses a well-deserved break. Henry has been there before on his pre training program, Mick who looks after the horses has great knowledge having worked for Bill O’Gorman and Gerard Butler. They have big plans for the stud and have started to buy some really nice mares… including our mare Scillion who is in foal to Equiiano, due in Feb…

Somethingboutmary did not run well in her last race and a break looked long overdue for her… a chance to re-charge the batteries and grow… She is rated 70 on the AWT , Henry Bee has not been out since injuring himself at Thirsk after winning 2 on the bounce…. Looks to be growing pains and the fact that he has been in training over a year… we all need a break. Mick has a plan for him and will get Bee back buzzing ready for next season…

Bunce ran twice in October… Finishing 4th at Southwell a great effort to say that the surface may not have suited, then he went on to finish 7th at Catterick. We have a few ideas why we have not seen him get his head in front, he will get the winter off and will come back soon very well handicapped of 70 with plenty of room for improvement.

Siberian Belle has been taken out of training and will go to a new home very soon… a sweet filly with talent.. sadly we never saw her full potential. She won for is in August at Yarmouth… so the decision was made to take her out of training and start a fresh with a new yearling…

Woolfell Sovereign is back in work and will soon be back in action on the all-weather… rated 87 he won’t be running for small prizes.. we still have a long term plan but will see how the 1st two races go, aiming at a race at southwell in December… he looks well and fired up. Let’s hope he can add to our impressive year by sticking his head in front….

we have added a 2yr old filly called Throwing Roses to our team for next year… Previous in training with Ollie Pears we have taken her on with aim of loosing her maiden tag next year… Still not decided on where she will be trained, she is currently in a field just outside Huby, eating Dr Grass and gowing…. She will be £500 all in for the year for 5% share staring in jan…. She will offer a bit of fun and hopfully reward owners with a win and a few good days out

This year has been our best to date and we still have 2 months of the all-weather to add to it…. Happy owners , Horse in form and a few nice bets landed. WRS will build on this and get bigger and better in 2013… The addition of some new horses including a possible star…. Watch this space

In other news …… 2 out of 3 horses have been bought for our American dream package… the Bang in form Marford Missile and Marchwood…. Both tick all the boxes and expect to see their noes crossing the wire in pole position…. One more horse to buy. Nothing was bought at Newmarkets HITS.. but we still have time and I have a list of horse I need to start ringing the trainers about… They will ship 1st week in Dec and be running very soon after.

WRS had its day out at Pontefract on Monday 22nd October.. Massive turn out in our box… Thank you to all who attended … everyone had a great day, drinks bets and horses… including a few guests… Kevin Ryan called in for a beer and as did WRS favourite Freddie Tylicki who took time out to sign a few winning pics of him on Henry Bee for the owners… Sadly the weather was not brillient but i cant arrange everything

Our Calendar of events for 2013 is taking shape… looks like it will be Doncaster on Lincoln day…. WRS will have a box for the owners… a great start to hopefully a great season ahead

WRS day out Pontefract Races 2012

This was our 2nd visit to Pontefract in a box with our owners…. Massive turn out with 26 in attendance.  Sadly I had no control over the weather but the box was warm, the beer was cold and the food smelt good….

Just before the start of the 1st Kevin Ryan called in to the box for a beer….. Was nice that Kevin had taken the time to come up and meet our owners, have a chat about our filly and what the future holds…. A few owners were very excited about having a beer with one of the north best trainers and the tweets were flying about making the mates jealous….  Most said how surreal it was that he had just walked in. made there day!!!

A great start was had by most with Charlie em bolting up at 7/1 unless you had backed it on the tote with a massive return of 4.20/1 … bad times….  Sadly fore me the wrs tip of the day had chased Charlie em home so not a dream start

The 1st few races seemed to be over so fast as I tried to get round and have a chat with as many people as possible…. Plans for the year to come, our latest projects all washed down with a fair few coronas.

Our next special guest was wildcard racing favourite Freddie Tylicki …. Freddie called in to say hello and sign a few pics of him winning on Henry Bee. Freddie was in great for laughing and joking before he went off to ride. Highlight of the day when he turned to Katie and told her that he has seen her on YouTube shouting him home at Beverly and Haydock. A slightly embarrassed   Katie thanked him and gave me a scowl …..

Winners a plenty in the box including my dad landing a 20/1 shot Yorkshire man and Karen picking out a mud lover from Redcar….. I think between us we had every winner and drank the bar dry…

Overall a massive success and a great chance for the WRS army to have a meet up and get to know other people from the horses we have.. It’s nice that people make such an effort to attend on a cold wet Monday… including the haribo loving Jonny Lane all the way from London. I also have to thank Pontefract for their hospitality…. One of my favourite tracks.

The ring of the bell meant it was time for the bar to close and for the wrs day out to finish…. Thanks to all that attended and hope you had a great day out

Wildcard racing August 2012

August has been a very good month….  An exciting entry in the Ayr Bronze cup and 2 winners……

 Henry Bee

Had the whole month off to get over his back strain… he is now well in to preparations for the Ayr Racing festival…. All being well he will run in the bronze cup, he will go straight to Ayr on 22nd of September. To say we have happy owners is an understatement…. Hopefully ground and pace in the race will be in his favour and he runs a big one

 Siberian Belle

She finally became belle of the ball… winning an apprentice race in the capable hands of Laura Barry….. Laura who used to look after Belle was so pleased even though Belle made it as hard as possible for her. It’s been a long time coming but Belle Pulled out just enough without really trying to win…. We have entered everywhere since but races are hard to get in to at her level but reports are very good and we expect her to come on for the run and reward her owner’s patience… Nice comment on Attheraces as she passed the line another winner in the wildcard racing Colours….. nice to be noticed

 Somethingboutmary

Just 1 start and 1 win in August… All the way to Lingfield, put in to the stalls buy Gary witheford, led all way …. Job done. Julie Burke rode her at Lingfield and gave her a great ride, Turning for home the pack look to be closing but a quick slap turned on the burners and off she went to win a shade cosy….. From the reports at home she is working very well, just putting all the pieces of the puzzle together for the finished article

 Bunce

New addition this month to wildcard racing….. A bargain at just £6k he is in training with David O ‘Mera….. After a 10 week layoff he has ran twice in 3 days finishing 5th on both occasions. David id very happy with him and now knows what he has to work with…. It won’t be long till he adds to wildcard racings impressive strike rate for 2012…..

 Woolfall sovereign

Back in work now after having part of his hoof removed….. Can’t wait to get him back

 In other news

Wildcard racing attended the malton open day…  a great success with plenty of info handed out and new owners brought in…..i love attending days like that showing people what we have to offer… A friendly service, a great strike rate, top trainers and great horses….. it’s been an amazing year to date and I am looking forward to the last few months…..

Siberian belle is my horse to watch….. Going very much in the right direction….

Wildcard Racing July 12

It’s been a great month for Wildcard Racing…… Our shining light is Henry Bee, finally getting the idea of where the line is and completing a double within 2 weeks,

Henry Bee

We went to Beverley to try a new trip with Henry, he had been running well and consistent but never getting his head in front, we decided a stiff 5 may just be the answer, A late change of Jockey meaning Freddie Tylicki would ride, his first ever for WRS…. Henry jumped from the stalls the disadvantage of the bad draw never looked to be an issue… The smart horse being the one to beat, henry travelled well and entering the last 2f looked to be ready to pick of the leader, he did this with ease inside the final furlong and it was celebration time…… All the fun he had given us he had sealed the deal with a win

This is what it means to people http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSoEXF2PVIQ&feature=plcp

Not long till we had another entry… this time a class 4 event at Haydock… in good form we hoped for a good run….. and what a run he gave us. Badly outpaced 1st 4f his new pilot pulled him wide and within  a  matter of strides had put the race to bed, Henry had won a shade cosy in the end so the 6lb rise from the handicapped seems fair….. 7 places, 2 wins for 12 runs is a top effort….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX24DlRUjQ0&feature=plcp

He had an entry at Newmarket in the class 2 sprint but the weights went against us so decided not to run….. he will now go to Thirsk or Newmarket this Saturday

Siberian Belle

A much better run from Belle at Yarmouth a few weeks back showed that she was starting to get the idea of the racing game… Travelled well just a lack of pace near the finish, But everyone seemed pleased with her run…. Undecided if she wants further or 7F….. we went to Ayr over a mile. Again she travelled well and looked like she was going to make all, entering the final 2 we thought we had found the key but as before she just did not pick up… Headgear will be the key and she won’t be far away next time!!!!!

Somethingboutmary

She finally passed the stalls test….. it took 2 weeks longer than we thought due to her being ‘ a stubborn cow’ one of the hardest that Gary has dealt with..All sorted now and with a very nice rating of 65 Kevin will get her tuned up and racing asap.

Woolfall Sovereign

Still on the side-lines due to a foot injury but fully expected to be back in August

Bunce

Our New addition Bunce will join David O’Mera… Rated a very well handicapped 74, there is plenty to like about him, with just 25% left it shows what other owners think about him and were keen to snap shares up…… A winner at 83 there is plenty of scope to improve

Henry Bee is buzzing!!!! Haydock 20 july 2012

Henry Bee yet again did the business at Haydock, winning a class 4 heat in a cosy style…..

I had the pleasure of going to Haydock with Freddie Tylicki and Graham Gibbons, a fascinating look in to the world of a jockey on the road. Its hard not to just talk about racing, but sat in a car with 2 top jockeys i gave in and asked away!!!!!

Freddie met us in the paddock giving his number one fan and Henry bee owner Katie a welcome kiss…. he was in good form as we discussed tactics, the plan…. get a lead and win!!!! simplz…..

Henry looked a picture fully kitted out in his CeeJays rug and matching headband…. up to Freddie and Henry now..

Badly outpaced in 1st few furlong due to a very quick gallop, Freddie had to push him along to keep in touch, entering the last 2 furlong and the quick pace showed on the front runners…

It only took a small gap for Freddie to again light him up and he quickly picked up and went away from the pack… ears pricked and with Freddie grinning as he passed the line….

As you can see from the you tube clip….. this is what it means http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX24DlRUjQ0&feature=plcp With tears of joy again in the eyes of the owners we went to the winners circle to meet our boy, Henry pumped up walked in like he owned the place, Freddie grinning with joy, Amy finally had led our boy in….

Interviews, pictures, trophies and champagne followed…… then it was back home…. Freddie buzzing in the car, a day never to forget.

Henry is now entered at HQ Newmarket on Saturday, its a big step up but the form he is in and the yard anything is possible….

There is still 15% left in Henry Bee….. he is a star, placed or won in 9 out of 12 starts, you could argue he is near a perfect syndicate horse…. think he owners would say he is.

Please check out our NEW PROMOTION VIDEO !!!!! a view from an owners eyes!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TahM2z7tJR8&feature=plcp

Please get in touch if you want to be involved..andrew.bonarius@btinternet.com   … Dealing in winners!!!!!

Henry Bee wins at Beverley 07/07/12

Henry Bee finally did it… finally got his head in front. Its been long overdue and with a few very good efforts behind him. After his last few runs we have had to make the pace, Richard decided to put him in a 5F race at Beverley, after a lot of questions asked by syndicate members over the distance, the boss had convinced me that he had the speed, Beverley is a stiff 5f and with the soft ground we were hopeful of a big run…. and big is what we got.

we had to wait till last race of the day to see Henry run, the Musley bank team had got him looking a million dollars, wining best turned out was just the start of it…A late jockey change saw Freddie Tylicki make his debut for WRS and what a way to start…. On paper there were 2 horses to beat, Tim easterbys and Brian Smarts….. I had been told that smarts was fancied and it went of Fav in end….

After a few pics in the parade ring Henry Cantered to post, we took our place in the stand ready to shout him home….. Henry had been placed in 7 out of 10 runs and it was now his time to shine… Gates opened henry was out and rolling from a bad draw nearly by Beverley cathedral… he moved well keeping pace of his first go at 5f… up there most of the way… Freddie sat pretty in the plate just giving HB a bit of rain. 2f out a few of the fancied runners started to come under pressure…. Henry had come wide and was poised to pick them off… the pace in the race had left him wanting to catch horses, Freddie pressed the button, a slap of the persuader , Henry ears pricked head down responded…. gaining ground with every stride….. The noise from the wildcard camp grew, Henry drew level and went on…. last 100 yards it was all over today he was not stopping in front….. Freddie pushed him home….. Finally his owners really had something to cheer about….. pushing people out of the way to get to the parade ring…. HB was stood next to Freddie…. veins pumping, nostrils flayed…. He had galloped today all right…. He had done the business…. ( i put it down to his new lucky headband)

After multiple pictures, it was to collect our trophy and then to celebrate…. Champagne time!!!!

 To view the race   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMXnc2fPbss

Henry has now won or been placed 8 from 11…. you can’t ask much more from a syndicate horse!!!!
