Wildcard Tipping Competition Week 14. Final Week

Well Guineas weekend will be remembered for a scintillating performance by Dawn Approach, and Richard Hughes winning his first English classic, but will also be remembered for the final week of our first Wildcard Tipping competition. This has been a really enjoyable competition to run and a big congratulations goes out to our first winner Andrew Condon who after 14 weeks showed a profit of +16.

The competition has really hotted up in the last few weeks, as the goal posts where changed and I introduced the format of having to qualify for the champions league, in order to stand a chance of gaining the ultimate prize of a share in a WRS horse for next season. The competition has been fearless with all competitors looking for that big priced winner to seal there place. This week there was 8 winning NAPS, with Katie Gellatly finishing off in style with 9-2 winner Secret In The Park. George Fraser made it 2 NAPS on the trot with Universal at Newmarket, and a host of competitors chose Dawn Approach who won the colts classic at 11-8.

But the real hard luck story goes out to Michael Mccarthy who just missed out on qualifying for the grand prize when tipping 10-1 scorer Boonga Roogeta. Unlucky, but a great selection.

So its a fantastic win for Andy Condon who not only has landed tickets to the races and a free bet, but leads the way in the newly formed champions league table. Congratulations to you.

A new competition for all competitors starts on Saturday and if anyone else would like to join in the fun, then please get in touch at wildcard.racing2@btinternet.com.

So before we see the competitors battling it out for our main prize, dont forget to get your Naps in by 12 midday at the address above. The next competition will run now from May 11th till August the 9th. So please keep supporting the event and the team at Wildcard Racing would like to thank you all.

Wildcard Racing Tipping Competition Week 13

Week 13 was Sandown’s mixed meeting, with the last major Handicap over the sticks being the Bet365 Handicap chase which featured the competitions most Napped horse Away We Go which finished 3rd. There was a total of 6 winning NAPS this week, with Ray Ogden posting a hat trick of winning NAPS with Al Kazeem winning at 9-4. Other winning selections of note was George Fraser who cemented his place in the champions league with Havana Cooler who won at 6-4, Matt Knights moved up the leaderboard with Brass Ring at 7-4. But the biggest mover this week and the biggest priced winner was found by Mark Wainwright who tipped big race winner Quentin Collonges who obliged at 14-1, well done Mark.

We now move to the final week of our first competition with plenty to play for. The winner of the competition will receive tickets to the races plus a free bet. Andy Condon has long been the leader but can he hold on for one more week.

The main prize of a share in a race horse takes a twist after next week, with all competitors who have managed to show a profit in our initial game carrying on and going into the champions league to battle it out for the top prize. If anyone would like to know there current standing please get in touch. After next week a new competition will start with every player back on 0.

I would like to take this moment to thank everyone who has made this an enjoyable success, and hope that everyone will continue to support Wildcard Racing.

Wildcard Tipping Competition Week 12

The competition has passed its 12th week with the main meeting being the Scottish Grand National at Ayr. This involved its most popular NAP last week Fill The Power who sadly ran down the field for his 4 supporters. There where 6 successful NAPS last week with Tony Norrie coming up trumps with Godsmejudge who won the feature race at 12-1. There was also impressive results for Adam Shorten who napped Universal at 11-1, Steve Poskitt Half A Sixpence at 10-1 and Phil Fellowes Lord Ashley at 13-2. Ashley Pheasant cemented his place in the champions league line up with Mayfield Girl at 11-2 and Ray Ogden followed up his success the week before by selecting Diamond King at Bangor who obliged at 11-8. Well done to you all.

There is now two more weeks before the first phase of the competition comes to a head, and then a new competition will begin with the current top tipsters who have shown a profit in the initial competition, fighting it out for the 1st prize of a share in a horse with Wildcard Racing in 2014. Andy Condon still leads the way with 2 weeks to go, but its still up for grabs as we close in on the Guineas meeting.

Dakar Run is sold at Cheltenham for 80,000 Gns

Our very successful bumper horse Dakar Run has been sold tonight at the Brightwell sales at Cheltenham for 80,000 gns. The horse raced for Wildcard Racing 3 times, winning twice and finishing a respectable 5th in the champion bumper at Aintree.Dakar_Brian_01This good looking son of Dalakhani has been bought by Frank Berry on behalf of the legendary national hunt owner J P Mcmanus. The horse will now be trained at Jackdaws Castle by Jonjo O Neil and will hopefully embark on a successful career over timber for them next winter. Good luck to them in the futurejp-mcmanusDakar Runs new owner J P McManus

As it is disappointing to lose a good horse, it shows that the team at Wildcard Racing have an eye for a good horse and shows how shrewd everybody is within our organisation, in making a healthy profit. The owners have had a terrific time with the horse, including a great day out at Aintree on Grand National day, and two impressive wins. They walk away with a healthy bank balance, hopefully to re invest with team Wildcard and find the next Dakar Run.

So we move on to find a new star and you can join the team and the excitement, get in touch.

Wildcard Racing Tipping Competition Week 11

Week 11 was a weekend of competitive racing, but that didnt stop the Wildcard tipping competitors getting stuck in and finding a very respectable 13 winners. The highest priced winner was found by Mick Sanderson who tipped Move In Time who won the sprint handicap at 7-1. The girls in the competition all did well as Katie Gellatly and Janet Richards followed in the footsteps of Paula Chiltern by napping Grey Mirage and Red Courtier.

A week in Wildcard Racing

A week that started at Redcar on April fools day, that ended in the sunshine at Aintree on Grand National day. That is the week that Wildcard Racing enjoyed in the first week in April.

Throwing Roses was our first runner this week in a 5 furlong Handicap at Redcar. This was her 1st run for the team and a real finding out mission. The ground was tacky and after showing early speed, she faded to the tail. The horse will be better suited by a longer trip, and racing on better ground, and the hope that after blowing away the cob webs she will improve.004Here she is above enjoying the parade at Redcar, and the picture below shows the owners at Redcar enjoying the Wildcard experience with connections.006After enjoying the Bank holiday fun at Redcar, it was time for our next runner to run in Aqueduct in America as Julius Geezer was bidding for further success for the American dream partnership. The race was a 30 thousand dollar claimer and the Geezer went off in the states at 10-1 on there tote. The horse was quick out the gates and got a good position just in behind the pace setter, before taking up the running coming out the back straight, down the stretch they came and the Geezer fought off all comers to win in gutsy fashion recording win number 7 for the season for WRS. IMG-20130407-WA008Julius Geezer has now amassed more prize money in America than he did in this country throughout his racing career in Britain. This goes to show what an incredible achievement the American adventure has been for Wildcard Racing, and the whole team and the owners involved can be very proud of this horses efforts. The Geezer will continue racing in the states with much bigger prizes now his objective.IMG-20130407-WA001The last part of a big week was the small matter of the unbeaten Dakar Run racing in the grade 2 Aintree Bumper. For Wildcard to be represented on Grand National day was huge for everyone. The horse has been a dream to be involved with and went to Aintree with all the hopes and dreams of everyone connected.IMG-20130407-WA003The horse was partnered by Brian Hughes and went to post an 11-1 chance. The horse was very relaxed yesterday and went to post with confidence behind him.

The tapes went up and the race was off, settled towards the rear the horse travelled really well, following the favorite Tistory for most of the contest. Turning for home the horse began to come off the bridle but was still in close contention as the race heated up at the business end. Unfortunately for all his followers he was just unable to quicken up with the leaders but stayed on strongly to finish a gallant 5th beaten around 13 lengths.

The racing post analysis yesterday was held up; headway 3f out; ridden 2f out; kept on final furlong, nearest finish.

The paper stated Dakar Run came into this unbeaten and travelled strongly in midfield until asked to quicken off the final bend. He made some ground but his effort soon petered out.

The team was delighted, and the dream of having a runner at such a prestigious meeting was achieved. Dakar Run is a pleasure and having only raced 3 times, huge improvement can be expected as this 4 year old moves forward in his career.IMG-20130406-00245A special week in the Wildcard Racing adventure, and with future success on the horizon as the flat turf season really kicks into gear, a perfect time for people who want to live the dream to get involved.logo

Wildcard Tipping Competition Week 10

Grand National weekend was week 10 in our competition, with alot of the competitors having a go at the big race itself, with no one finding the 66-1 winner Auroras Encore. Amazingly there was only 2 winning NAPS as both Tony Norrie and Ray Ogden both selected Solwhit who hacked up in the Liverpool hurdle at 9-4.
The most Napped horse this week was our very own Dakar Run who finished a respectable 5th in the concluding bumper.
There was a further 9 selections that finished placed including leader Andy Condon who Napped Chosen One 2nd at 22-1, Alby Mills placing Als Memory at 8-1, Ryan Mcloughlin 3rd with Johns Spirit at 12-1 and Janet Richards 2nd with Mac Aeda at 14-1. So the leaders hit the cross bar this week.
Competition hots up as we go to week 11, so dont forget to e mail your selections by Midday next Sat at wildcard.racing2@btinternet.com

Wildcard Tipping Competition Week 9

Lincoln weekend is over and week 9 has commenced in the Wildcard racing tipping competition. This week we had 10 winning NAPS, with Ashley Pheasant and Paula Chiltern selecting Thunderball, who won the opening heat at Doncaster at 14-1. Well done to you both.
The horse that landed the most winning NAPS was Miblish, ridden by our own Freddie Tylicki at Kempton and meant a winning Saturday for Ray Ogden, Steve Watwood, Andy Bonarius and Richard Jones. Michael Ross continued his good form with Quite The Man winning at Carlisle, after Napping Putin last week and now moves into 4th place in the competition.

Wildcard Racing Horses In Training 2013 Update

This is an update on all the horses that are in training for Wildcard Racing in 2013, this year has started off with great success with 6 winners already, including 2 wins across the pond for our American dream group, and the 2 time winner Woolfall Sovereign as well as the exciting Dakar Run.

Horses in training
2 year olds

George The First

Aqlaam 3 (1)This strapping 2 year old colt is by Aqlaam out of Mrs Gray and is trained in Yorkshire by Kevin Ryan. As you can see by this photograph, this horse has alot of size and scope and has settled in well at his home in Yorkshire and is showing all the right signs. The horses work will gradually be stepped up in a few weeks, but if the horse has an engine to go with his size then there is alot to look forward to, in his first season with us.

With regards to this horses pedigree, Aqlaam his father was a top class animal, that in his career won the group 3 jersey stakes at the royal meeting. Also he took the group 1 prix de moulin in France and amassed a total of 503,565 in prize money during his career on the track. Aqlaam finished his career with a rating of 120, and lets hope he has passed on some of his ability to his son.

Mrs Gray has given her son his colour as this 26 year old mare was in fact grey. Since the year 2000, she has produced 11 foals and in this time her offspring have provided the family with 22 winners, at various trips ranging from 5 furlongs to a mile and a half. One of her offspring Woodcock Moon never raced, but has gone on to produce Moonstone Magic which won last years Fred Darling stakes at Newbury and ran in last years 1000 Guineas  That makes her George The Firsts cousin, so clearly our horse has alot to live up to  but this well bred son of Aqlaam is very exciting and will give his owners some unforgettable moments in the up coming months.

Mrs Jbushrangerfilly_big

The last of our 2 year olds currently in training is Mrs J. She is by Bushranger out of Keepers Dawn, and is being trained at the legendary Easterby stables in Yorkshire. She was a little backward when first arriving at Tim Easterbys but has thrived since and is pleasing all, she has grown alot since she first arrived. She to will not be rushed, but the team are looking forward to getting her on the track in the months ahead.

Mrs J’s father Bushranger was a high class , Irish trained, winner of the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes as a 2 year old. Both races where at Group 1 level and gained this horse a mark of 121. Bushranger only had 10 career starts and 6 of them was at Group/Grade 1 level, which shows just what a high class horse this was when trained by David Wachman.

Keepers Dawn is entering her 20th year and has produced 2 winners including the Richard Hannon trained Candleshoe who won as a 3 year old and was placed on 2 occasions from 7 starts.

2-6                33          0         0       1         £4307

This filly was a consistent performer last year when trained by Kevin Ryan, gaining 2 successes on the all weather at Lingfield and Southwell. She seemed to handle both surfaces with aplomb and she is a filly with alot of natural ability. She ran a shade disappointing at the end of the season, but hopefully with another winter on her back, she will go on again. She is now rated 70 on the sand and 65 on the turf.

Since last year it was felt that Somethingboutmary would benefit from a change of scenery and has been transferred to the shrewd outfit of Tim Pitt in Newmarket. It was felt that Tim’s smaller yard would cater to the fillies needs as she can be a little quirky and being in the confides of a smaller stable, will ensure she gets the tender loving care she requires.

The filly has had one or two niggles and is a little bit behind the rest of the team, but this could be a blessing in disguise as she will have the chance to strengthen and blossom in her new surroundings.

She will hopefully come good and win a nice prize this summer, and is another of the team to look out for this year.

This filly is a new addition to the Wildcard brand and was purchased at the back end of last season. She ran with great credit last year without getting her head in front and was placed in the first four, on 6 of her 8 starts. She has strengthened up well in the close season and the decision was made to send her to the up and coming trainer that is Lawrence Mullaney.

She has settled in really well and has been working on the nearby gallops of Tim Easterby. She is moving really well and looks a horse that all her owners will have alot of fun with this flat season. She is an ideal horse for those who are having there first taste of racehorse ownership as we are running a package of a one off payment for the whole season. Hopefully it wont be to long before she breaks her maiden on the racecourse and adds to Wildcard Racing’s winning tally.

Henry Bee has been a fantastic servant to Wildcard Racing and has been hugely consistent throughout his short career. Trained in Yorkshire by Richard Fahey, Henry didn’t run as a 2 year old and was given plenty of time to strengthen by connections, making his debut at Wolverhampton on the 5th January 2012. The horse finished second from a wide draw with Paul Hanagan aboard, and from that moment Henry would give his owners a tremendous thrill. The horse would then place another 6 times before finally getting his head in front at Beverley on July the 7th. The race over 5 furlongs was run on soft ground and ridden by Freddie Tylicki, the horse battled to win by a length and a quarter and break his maiden tag. He then took his chance 3 weeks later at Haydock Park and after being outpaced in the early stages of a strongly run contest, came through under the same pilot to win his second race rewarding his supporters at 9-2. That race at Haydock has worked out well with 3 winners coming out of the contest, and Henry can be expected to improve again with another winter on his back. His last run was disappointing, but he clearly wasn’t right, and now back at Richards yard for this current campaign, given underfoot conditions, can step up again and reward his owners with more success.

The most exciting horse currently under the Wildcard banner, this horse purchased off Luca Cumani as an unraced animal has made this cold winter feel alot warmer. This gelding is related to group horses such as Ascot Gold Cup winner Kayf Tara and high class Opera House.

The horse is trained like Henry Bee by Richard Fahey and had been pleasing     all the staff and connections in the run up to his debut at Wetherby in February  Ridden by Brian Hughes the horse was sent off a well backed 3-1 second favorite and duly made a winning debut comfortably seeing off the unbeaten Baltimore Rock by an easy 4 and a half lengths, could have been treble that, cementing his status as one of the north’s top bumper horses. Cheltenham was then muted as a possible target race, but it was felt that the undulations and how rough that particular contest is that the horse should by pass that race in favour of gaining more experience elsewhere. That race was at Huntingdon during the week of the Cheltenham festival and Dakar did not let his fans down by grinding out a length success from the well regarded Long Lunch giving that horse 10 pound. This horse is as exciting as it gets and with Aintree now the horses target, win, lose or draw Dakar Run will put Wildcard Racing at the scene of the worlds greatest horse race, and goes there with every chance

Garzoni is an extremely well bred filly, being bred by the cheverley Park Stud and having relations such as the high class Dazzle trained by Sir Michael Stoute. The horse was put into training with Sir Mark Prescott and ran 5 times with that yard showing glimpses of ability when finishing 4th at Brighton last August. She was then purchased and sent to Tim Easterbys to be trained for this campaign. This filly was very weak last year and has strengthened up over the winter and hopefully can progress as the year goes on. She made her debut for Wildcard on the opening day of the turf flat season and ran a poor race, running like something was a miss. That is not her and im sure once all her problems have been resolved she will gain some success before taking up duties as a broodmare.

Julius Geezer has been one of the great success stories of Wildcard Racing this year, having being claimed by Amy Weaver on our behalf to form part of the American dream partnership from Tom Dascombe. This horse was a good two year old having won the lily agnes conditions race at Chester. The horse then had a quiet spell, until bursting into life in 2012 winning 3 times and racing consistently well off marks in the 80s. Claimed by Amy after finishing 3rd at Wolverhampton in November, the geezer was sent with two other horses to Gulfstream Park to start a new stage of his racing career. After having a few runs to acclimatize to his new surroundings the horse lined up at Gulfstream Park in February and after racing on the pace for most of the way, out battled his rivals to gain the Americans dream first success in the United States in 2012. The very next evening Marchwood also won for the Wildcard team and was claimed to remain in America for another yard.

Julius Geezer has done his job and followed up that performance finishing 4th under a penalty in his next race. The plan is now to run in a $100,000 dollar race in April and hopefully the Geezer can serve up more success for the American Dream partnership and Wildcard Racing.

This horse has been a bit slow to come to hand, but is gradually finding his feet for his new trainer. The horse has struggled in the bad ground this winter and hopes are, that the horse can start to show glimpses of his bumper form when we get better ground this spring.

Woolfall Sovereign needs no introduction and has been the flag bearer for Wildcard Racing in the last few months. Trained in Newmarket by the excellent George Margarson, this horse has seen the highs and the lows having come back from a serious foot problem and recapture his best form and run career bests. The horse was nearly lost in the summer as after a disappointing run on the turf it was found that the horse had a serious foot problem, that needed lots of box rest and treatment. The horse made his comeback in December and ran a very encouraging race finishing fifth. His next outing was only 5 days later at Lingfield and this time Wooly made no mistake, showing a great turn of foot to register a stunning success. The horse has since gone on to win twice more and last was seen running in a listed contest at the Winter Derby meeting at Lingfield Park.

A real credit to connections and the Wildcard brand, and its hoped the horse can transfer his all weather form to turf this summer.

Wildcard Tipping Competition Update

Good evening, sorry for this late update, it has been a hectic week.

The Wildcard tipping competition has been in full swing now for a few weeks without an update. As you where all aware we ran a competition through the Cheltenham festival with a prize going to the winner of a free bet courtesy of Bet Victor. This ran in conjunction with our overall competition that has now been in operation for 8 weeks.

Cheltenham week on the WRS tipping competition was as exciting as the racing itself, with plenty of NAPS obliging. After day 1 we had 9 winning selections with the majority of wins coming in the opening Supreme Novice Hurdle, thanks to gutsy winner Champagne Fever returned at 5-1.

Day 2 saw only 5 winning selections headed by Martin Comerford who selected Lord Windermere at 8-1. Most winning selection on day 2 was Back In Focus who showed a great deal of stamina to oblige at 9-4. With that selection, Geoff Booker led the way after gaining his second success after tipping Champagne Fever on day 1.

Day 3 was a nightmare for punters and tipsters alike, with incredibly only 1 winning NAP thanks to Michael Ross tipping Cue Card to win the Ryanair Chase at 7-2. That propelled Michael to top of the leader board going into the last day.

So on we went to the final day, Gold Cup day, the blue riband in national hunt racing. Bobs Worth was a worthy winner, Napped by 2 people including Geoff Booker, who then moved to the top of the leaderboard. But just as Geoff must have thought he had done enough, the tapes went up for the Martin Pipe conditional Handicap hurdle and Alby Mills managed to find 16-1 winner Salubrious, giving Alby his second winning NAP of the week after tipping Champagne Fever on day 1. So well done Alby and thanks to everyone who took part.
